As a songwriter and a performer, Willie Nelson played a vital role in post-rock & roll country music. Although he didn't become a star until the mid-'70s, Nelson spent the '60s writing songs that became hits for stars like Ray Price, Patsy Cline and Billy Walker. During the early '70s, Willie aligned himself with Waylon Jennings and the burgeoning outlaw country movement that made him into a star.
To this day he remains a vital icon in country music, having greatly influenced the new country, new traditionalist, and alternative country movements of the '80s and '90s as well as leaving behind a legacy of classic songs and recordings.

The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The two brothers, Seth and Scott, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. More recently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as "post civil-war modern rock", or by other reviewers as "grungegrass".

VIOLIN RECITAL WESTERN MUSIC and JAPANESE MUSIC: OLD and NEW
Violinist Ayako Yonetani returns to the THCA to perform classical music through her violin recital Western Music and Japanese Music: Old and New. This afternoon recital features Baroque, contemporary western and contemporary Japanese music.
Now a music professor teaching violin and viola at the University of Central Florida, Ayako Yonetani holds academic degrees, including a doctorate, from the Juilliard School where she studied with Hyo Kang and the late Dorothy DeLay. Additionally, she is a member of Japan’s premier chamber ensemble Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo.
